THE COLLECTOR’S EDIT

Project: Comprehensive Home & Collection Transformation
for Retired Teacher in Doylestown, PA

  • The Strategy: I used a "foundation-first" approach, starting in the basement to create a high-function sewing studio and office. Establishing this baseline allowed us to systematically audit forty years of household archives, update adult children’s rooms, and prepare the main living areas for entertaining and family visits.

  • The Narrative: Managing forty years of accumulation in a 2,300-square-foot home requires a process that is both empathetic and highly organized. For this retired teacher, the home had become an archive of papers, collectibles, heirloom quilts, extensive dish ware, and sentimental artifacts. Over a six-month residency, I guided the client through a rigorous downsizing process, shifting the focus from the volume of the collection to the value of its best pieces.

Whether narrowing a drawer of ten spatulas down to the essential five or sorting through decades of childhood books, my role was to provide the "gentle push" needed to let go. By organizing these items into themed, accessible zones, we replaced decades of disarray with a functional layout. The residence now serves as a curated gallery of the family’s legacy rather than a warehouse for it.

”Corrinne, the most important thing you've helped me learn is how to tidy and sort.” - KA, Doylestown, PA
