Home Downsize + Temporary Clothing Storage

Project: Comprehensive Downsizing & Remodel Prep

Situation: Contracted for a six-month, multi-phase project to prepare a family for a major home remodel. The family had not downsized in over 40 years, requiring the comprehensive decluttering, sorting, and storage of decades of possessions from the basement and first two floors of their home (clothing, shoes, books, records, technology, home goods, bathrooms and kitchen items, photographs, paperwork, items from deceased in-laws/parents). My experience on this project included both supervising team members and independently managing long-term client collaboration.

Action:

  • Basement Transformation: Led the complete decluttering and organization of a basement storage room and basement living oto create a dedicated, temporary holding space. This involved pulling out all existing contents, sorting, categorizing, and donating. We also designed and built shelving units for optimized storage.

  • Remodel Prep & Archival: Systematically packed, labeled, and archived all kept household belongings from the basement and first two floors. Every item was moved to the newly organized basement, ensuring a streamlined process for the upcoming remodel.

  • Clothing Downsizing: Addressed a large-scale clothing collection, sorting mountains of clothes for donation and packing. We also created a temporary, highly functional closet and hanging storage area in the basement living space.

Result: Delivered a successful and highly organized system that fully prepared the family for their home remodel. The project provided a clean, decluttered slate for construction and created a functional, easy-to-manage living space throughout the renovation period. Subcontracted project with Go To Concierge.
